Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released by Manchester United. The Swedish star striker’s future at United was in doubt after he was listed as being released by United on an official list published by the Premier League on Friday – for players being retained and released by clubs.

The former Sweden international joined United as a free agent on a one-year deal, with the option of a second season. The extension had not been triggered by the time he got injured against Anderlecht. The 35-year-old, who starred for United last season scoring 28 goals in 46 matches before a knee ligament injury ended his campaign prematurely, could still be retained by United should they decide to renew his contract which is up on June 30th.
Ibra’s last sighting in a United shirt came against Anderlecht in April in the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinals, during which he was carried off on a stretcher with ruptured cruciate ligaments. He is unlikely to return until January and was on crutches as United beat Ajax 2-0 in the Europa League final in Stockholm, Sweden last month to qualify for the UEFA Champions League — a trophy he still hasn’t won in his illustrious career.
Ibra underwent an operation on the knee ligament in the United States in early May. Once he returns to full fitness, which is forecast for 2018, one of the two surgeons who performed the operation predicted Ibrahimovic playing on for many years to come.

“He’s so healthy, so strong, biologically, bone morphology, everything, is absolutely very healthy. He can still play for many years” Freddie Fu, chairman of the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, told the South China Morning Post.
Though Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released by Manchester United, he will still continue rehab at the club.
Up Man U!
