Bottom-positioned Stoke City snatched a point at Old Trafford as Manchester United lost 2 points in a most depressing way on Sunday afternoon football in the Theater of Dreams. Stoke’s Joe Allen capitalized on a David de Gea fumble to punish United for an unbelievably lax first-half finishing . . .
Stoke’s goalkeeper Lee Grant is man of the match for me because he prevented at least a 2 – 0 lead by United during United’s dominant first half encounter before the break. United made the breakthrough when substitute Anthony Martial swept home a curling shot – after the ball had swept past Wayne Rooney standing without doing anything really with the ball. Jose Mourinho is hereby advised to keep Rooney on the bench for a while – until Manchester United decides what to do with the United and England captain.
De Gea disappointed me today. Why the Spanish international couldn’t catch the slow ball, electing to punch away – I wouldn’t know – but that fumbled performance failed to hold Stoke’s Glen Johnson’s shot and Jon Walters’ follow-up which came off the bar, causing Allen to poke in the Stoke equalizer.
This match produced the most depressing 1 – 1 draw.
Up Man U!
