Agent cleans out selling players to United
Manchester United paid around £89 million to sign French international, Paul Pogba, from Juventus. No team opposed United because of the staggering price tag. But Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola (photo: above in his office), pocketed £16.8 million just for brokering the deal, reports Spanish newspaper AS. Raiola did a lot of business with United this summer, with more clients of his arriving Old Trafford with exorbitant price tags.

Raiola’s clients who arrived Old Trafford included ex-Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovich signed for £2.5 million with a near-Rooney-like weekly wages, and Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan signed for £6.7 million. Raiola earned a staggering and whopping £26 million this summer from the above three deals alone while ex-United player and now Real Madrid’s star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, earns £17.6 million a year. Wow!
Mourinho axe Bastian Schweinsteiger from Europa League squad
Manchester United’s German midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger (photo above: right), has been left out of United’s Europa League squad by the boss Jose Mourinho. The 31-year-old former Bayern Munich star has been included in United’s Premier League squad and will be eligible for domestic fixtures.
Schweinsteiger will not be able to play against Feyenoord, Fenerbahce and Zorya Luhansk in the group stages of the Europa League after he was omitted from the squad submitted to UEFA. Schweinsteiger is yet to feature under Jose Mourinho and has been training with the reserves. He was free to leave Old Trafford before the transfer deadline but decided to stay and fight for his place. Mourinho has admitted it will be ‘difficult’ for Schweinsteiger to play for the club again.
Luke Shaw withdraws from England squad, returns to United
Manchester United and England defender, Luke Shaw (photo: above), has returned to Old Trafford after withdrawing from England’s squad, ahead of their trip to Slovakia for Sunday’s World Cup qualifier. Reports say the left-back felt uncomfortable on Saturday morning. Thereafter he sat out of training after which it was decided he should go back to Old Trafford.
A statement on Saturday read: “The left-back was rested from training at St. George’s Park this morning with the medical team continuing to manage his workload. With Danny Rose set to start against Slovakia in Trnava tomorrow night, Shaw has been allowed to return to Manchester to train with his club as a precautionary measure. Sam Allardyce’s remaining 22 players all travelled out to Slovakia this afternoon.” Allardyce later confirmed in a press conference that Shaw was not injured and had returned to Manchester “for precautionary measures”
United get Mkhitaryan injury update from Armenian FA
United’s Armenian midfielder, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, is a doubt for the Manchester derby after the Armenian FA told Manchester United it will take 10 days for the midfielder to recover from an injury suffered on international duty. The 27-year-old was substituted during the first half of Armenia’s 3-0 defeat to Czech Republic on Wednesday and has been ruled out of their game against Denmark on Sunday.
Tests revealed Mkhitaryan the ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder suffered a thigh injury. A statement released by the Armenian FA read: “As reported, senior national team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan received an injury against Czech Republic and as a result was unable to continue the match. Mkhitaryan was found to have an injury in the lower third of the left thigh muscle. Such injuries usually require a week to 10 days to heal . . .”

Europa League draw: United face reunion with Van Persie
Manchester United will face Fenerbahce, Feyenoord and Zorya Luhansk in the group stage of the Europa League. This match-up pits United against former United’s striker Robin van Persie (photo: above), who is now with Fenerbahce. The match dates for the group stage are 15 and 29 September, 20 October, 3 and 24 November, and 8 December.
United boss Jose Mourinho said he knew little about Ukrainian opponents Zorya, whose home ground is close to the Russian border, meaning they will play their fixtures 500 miles away in Odessa. “We all know the competition is not the same as the Champions League but to have Manchester United playing against clubs with tradition like Fenerbahce and Feyenoord is good for us. We know that it will be a difficult group, but I think that is a good thing. It is good for the fans and for the players because it will help motivation.”
