Is Rooney going to China?

Captain Wayne Rooney sat out their Europa League trip to FC Midtjylland. The injured striker is rumored to be heading to Red China to play football. Manchester United is being linked with expensive strikers to replace Rooney and serve as alternatives on the bench.

Manchester Evening News writes that Rooney is apparently in serious danger of being offloaded to China, with a £500,000-a-week wage packet thrown in to soften the blow. The Mirror has since added that United received a £27m bid from Shanghai Shenhua for their captain. But the funds United receive, and the wages they save, won’t be sitting in the bank for long.

The Sun thinks the cash will go towards the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Antione Griezmann, who is believed to have a £60m buyout clause in his contract. The Spanish club are apparently keen on Juan Mata, and Jose Mourinho isn’t, so the tabloid thinks a cash-plus-player swap involving Mata and Griezmann makes perfect sense. So in other words, it’s Rooney + Mata for Griezmann.

Rooney & Van Gaal 2

Kevin Darling of Yahoo! Sport writes “But then we also have to throw Mauro Icardi into the mix, because the Italian striker is being linked with United with such regularity that it makes you think the rumour could actually be true. (Not that this has ever been a reliable rule to follow in the past.) Italian hacks Corriere Dello Sport are the latest to claim that the 22-year-old striker will be one of Mournho’s primary summer targets.”

Whether Rooney is going to China or not, Manchester United and England still needs him – especially since his form appears to be coming back to his short stout footballing legs.

I think it’s just a rumor . . .

Up Man U!
