Rumors surfaced over the weekend that Louis van Gaal has offered to resign as head coach of Manchester United. But the club’s management has denied those reports, according to ESPN . . .

Louis van Gaal has been under tremendous pressure to perform this seasons but last weekend Southampton dealt a crushing blow to United with a 1-0 defeat, making it the Dutchman’s sixth loss this season.

Some United fans have been calling for his head on Twitter while others are saying he should stay. But on Tuesday he was spotted arriving at the club’s training facility at Aon Complex in Carrington.

itv reported that Manchester United have denied manager Louis van Gaal offered to resign following Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Southampton.

Reports emerged late on Monday suggesting the Dutchman spoke to United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward about his future immediately after the Barclays Premier League contest at the weekend.

Within that, there were some claims Van Gaal offered his resignation on Saturday.

But that talk was dismissed by a club source on Tuesday morning as the 64-year-old Dutchman returned to work.

Louis van Gaal offered to resign as the Manchester United manager on Saturday following the dismal home defeat by Southampton but Ed Woodward, the executive vice-chairman, persuaded him to discuss his future with his family. Having returned to the Netherlands on Sunday Van Gaal will hold fresh talks with Woodward on Tuesday when he is expected at the club for first-team training.

At the meeting Woodward and Van Gaal will discuss the way forward but it is possible the manager could yet insist it is best for the club if he leaves.

Van Gaal admitted publicly for the first time on Saturday he had failed the United supporters, his comments coming after boos had accompanied him from the field at the end of the 1-0 defeat. It was the first open revolt against him from inside Old Trafford and, because Van Gaal has often cited fans’ backing as a prime factor in his hunger for the job, it moved him to make the offer to resign to Woodward.

The 64-year-old did so in calm fashion and it is a measure of Van Gaal’s loyalty to Woodward that he agreed to think again. He then returned to the Netherlands for his daughter’s birthday.

A decision on Van Gaal’s future is yet to be taken but, contrary to reports, he has not offered to leave Old Trafford

Louis Van Gaal did not offer to resign as Manchester United manager after the hugely disappointing defeat at home to Southampton, according to senior sources.

Van Gaal returned to work this morning, flying back in from Holland, after a two-day break, and is not scheduled to meet United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward for talks today. Woodward is in London for meetings while Van Gaal is expected to remain in Manchester.

Van Gaal is expected, however, to speak to Woodward before the FA Cup fourth round tie away to Derby County to discuss how he can turn around the club’s season. Woodward has urged Van Gaal to remain in his post in the past with the Dutchman having considered quitting following the Boxing Day defeat away to Stoke City.

There were suggestions that Van Gaal had again offered to go after the Southampton game but this has been flatly rejected by sources. United are maintaining their stance of not commenting publicly on the manager’s future.

Suffice it to say that Louis Van Gaal is still at Old Trafford – coaching and managing the players of Manchester United.

I am still of the belief and opinion that Van Gaal should be allowed to run his contractual course to the hilt at Old Trafford,, despite the angst and belligerence of the British press who have not allowed the flying Dutchman to drink water without choking.

The latest footballing style (possession football) introduced by Van Gaal should be allowed to fester in the Theater of Dreams. New things or innovations take time to be rooted. Some Man United fans and supporters must desist from wanting to win every game at the expense of long-term sustenance of an innovation capable of sustaining United’s dominance of the rounded-ball game for decades to come.

We shouldn’t sacrifice long-term success and glory with the fleeting immediacy of present glory.

Yes! Some matches will be lost and some will be won and/or drawn in the process of a new more stable style and innovation at Old Trafford.

Van Gaal’s methodology should be allowed to take root at Old Trafford if Manchester United must remain the biggest and most successful football or soccer club in the world.

Please, let Van Gaal be!
